reflection
Blog post due by the end of the day -- Reflect on your group's performance (strengths, weaknesses, etc.) as well as your individual performance. 350 words
I feel that our group did a very good job overall in our performance, but we had our strengths and our weaknesses. One of our strengths was the emotion that we showed in our performance. This was from the disappointment the mother felt about what she was doing and how her son would react or feel. I feel like we did a very good job of showing the urgency of the situation in our performance. one of our biggest weaknesses, however, was showing that the devil and angel were angry at each other. We instead seemed more like we weren't arguing but just having a conversation. This is one thing that if we could do again I would want to work on. Still, one other thing that I feel our group did well was our blocking. We didn't have much but we set it up so that the angel and devil were standing over the mother to show that they are watching over her and trying to protect her even though they had different ideas on how to they both wanted the same thing which was for the mother to support her son. I feel that the biggest weakness of our performance was that was when we weren't prepared as a group to go. By this I mean that for almost the entire time we were supposed to be practicing as a group at least one of us was out so we only had a little over a week to really practice together even with that I still feel that we did a good job we just didn't have the right chemistry with Denny because he had joined our group after we had already started so we had to add way more lines to make the performance longer. This leads to the next problem which was that we needed to work more on memorizing our line because we all forgot some of them and had to improvise but I still feel that it worked out. Lastly, I think we just needed to talk louder.
Short summary of the two stories we used
-
We chose the stories A Wall of Fire Rising and Night Women. A wall of fire rising is the story of a family of three who are struggling to make a living then at the end the father kills himself leaving only the mother and the son left. Then in night women it is a story of just a mother and son who are struggling to make a living as well.
Explain what we did our just our idea
-
We combined these two stories into one. the main part of our performance came from Night women we just added some parts of a wall of fire rising. We took the idea that the father killed himself and left the mother and son alone. Then is lead the mother to become a night women to support her son. This is the point where our performance starts. For our scene we used 4 character the mother the son the angel and the devil. This was decided to show the conflict that the mother had going on in her head.
Explain my character
-
I played the angel. All I was supposed to do was to try and convince the mother to stop being a night women or at the very least to start to find a better way of finding money. For most of my time on stage I am arguing with the devil about what she should do with her life. I am trying to convince him that this is what she needs as well.
Talk about what i did to prepare
-
To prepare for my part in the performance there were a few things that I had done. The first and the main way I got into my character was using stanislavski's method. I decided to think about a bad argument I have had in the past and try to imitate my feelings from that argument onto the stage.
What I did on stage
-
While on stage we gave the mother and son both monologues this was to show you how those characters felt during the seen. Then we had music playing this was to signal a calm time. Then for our blocking we decided to set up the angel and devil behind the mother to show that she is the main character and that the decision is hers to make. We also had the angel and devil standing over her to show that they were just trying to protect her and are watching over her.
