seize the day

Blog Post topic: Choose a few lines that stand out to you in the poem, and explain how the author makes them stand out, why you are interested in that section and what it makes you think about, and how it connects to the overall meaning of the poem.

The first lines that stand out to me were “let water heal your body.  Think of bathing as a ritual of new beginnings”. These lines stood out to me because I can relate to them well.  I relate to these lines because I feel that these lines are true. I think that water really does heal your body for a couple of reasons.  The first reason is that water is used for hydrating the body which helps to heal the body. Then the second was that we shower or bath in water which when we do this we are washing off everything bad that had happened that day and I think of it was a “new beginning” like what the line says.  The author made these lines stand out because she made them their own stanza which shows that they are important. The next lines that interested me were “concentrate on living hour by hour as if you were feeding coins into a meter measuring your life. Here is this hour and you have already paid for it”.  This line was interesting to me for a couple reasons. The first reason was that I feel that this is true that you should live your life hour by hour and that you should try to make your life the best you can. Then the second part of the lines “Here is this hour and you have already paid for it”. This part of those lines was interesting because it is saying like you only have one life so you should make the best of it.  Like the other lines that stood out to me these lines make up their own stanza which shows that they are important. The next lines that stood out to me were “Love your work, and enjoy your play. Remember there is little lasting joy in things done only for gold or fame”. These lines stood out to me because I found them to be very interesting. I found these lines to be the most interesting to me because I can connect with them the most out of any other line in the poem.  I connect with these lines so well because I feel that they are true that you should find a job doing something that you love and not just something that will make you the most money. Yes, money is amazing but you can still make money doing something that you like to do and it will actually be enjoyable. I feel that you should not have to wake up every day dreading going to work but instead be happy about it. That is no way to live life, just being miserable every day because if you love what you do then you will be able to do it better because you will enjoy doing it instead of hating it.
