The Glass Menagerie Review

The Glass Menagerie was written by Tennessee Williams and is a story about a family during what we believe is the Great Depression.  The three main Characters are Amanda who is the mother, Laura who is the daughter, and Tom who is the son.  Tom is also the narrator of this story.   The story starts with Tom having a flashback.  Almost the entire story is flashbacks that tom has of before he decided to leave the family.  This causes the story to be very confusing to some people.  At first it was very confusing to me but after I went over it I understood what was going on.  The story is mostly about Tom finding Laura a boyfriend and also Tom and Amanda arguing.  Tom and Amanda argued throughout the entire story and eventually it drove Tom to leave the family just like how his father did.  The highpoint of the story is when Jim comes over and they think that he will be Laura's gentleman caller, but he ends up being engaged already.  When he comes over he ends up changing Laura and making her more confident in herself because before she was insecure about how she had a limp in her leg.  Overall the story is about how Laura changes from being extremely shy to becoming a little less socially awkward and happier.
