review of chalk circle
The play started off with them arguing about who should have control over the land. Then they move into the story starting which I found this part to be a little weird because there was really no point to the first scene. Then the story started with the Governor and his family this was because this family played a important role in the play. Almost the entire play was based about their child. Then the other idea I didn't understand was the name of the play because the idea of a chalk circle doesn't appear until the very last scene it isn't even mentioned at all early in the play. Overall the story was about a woman who finds the royal baby during an attack and adopts the baby. Then the mother of the baby finds out that she has it and they go to court which is were the chalk circle comes because they use it to see who can pull the baby out of it. I thought the story was a little odd because of the way it started but then as it started to go I found it to be interesting. I liked how she had to survive by herself and take care of a baby. The major theme that I noticed was lover or caring. This was through Grusha and how much she loved and cared for the baby even though it was not hers.
