Friar Lawrence was the local priest in verona and he would conduct all the marriages, church ceremonies, and other activities that have to do with the church. He was also who Juliet went to to get the sleeping potion. He knew how to make medicine and I assume that he made the medicine for the people of Verona but that is something I am unsure of. I feel that Friar Lawrence is a peacemaker for in one main way decide the fact that he is a priest. This is that the main reason he agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet was to solve the conflict between the two families. This example shows how he is a peacemaker because he wanted to make the streets safer by ending the conflicts between the Capulets and the Montague's. "For this alliance may so happy prove,To turn your households' rancour to pure love." This quote from Friar Lawrence shows that he was a peacemaker and that he wanted to unite the Capulet's and Montague's and stop the violence between the two of them. This is the reason for which I believe that Friar Lawrence was a peacemaker during the love story of Romeo and Juliet.
In some ways Friar Lawrence was not a peacemaker. First off when he married Romeo and Juliet it created more conflict, more problems, and more hatred for each other between each family. This was due to Romeo and Juliet keeping it a secret. Since Romeo and Juliet were married it caused Mercutio and Tybalt to die. “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee Doth much excuse the appertaining rage”. Mercutio died because he didn't want to kill someone who was now technically family to him which cause him to die. “Tybalt under Romeo's arm stabs Mercutio”. This quote was from when Tybalt killed Mercutio when Romeo stopped him from killing Mercutio. Then later in the play he sold Juliet a sleeping potion. Then when Romeo returned he found her and thought that she was dead so he ended up killing himself. After that Juliet wakes up and Finds Romeo dead next to her this causes Juliet to kill herself. In the end Friar Lawrence technically caused all of this death because he married Romeo and Juliet. Yes it was accidental but it still makes him to not be a peacemaker even though that's what his goal was. These are the reasons that made me believe that Friar Lawrence was not a peacemaker even though he was intending to be one.
