Experience with the monologues
Discuss your experience this week working on your 2 monologues. How did you create character and how did you show emotion? What did you do well or improve upon? What did you learn? What aspects of it were difficult for you or could you do better on next time? Also, think about your peers' monologues. What did you see that made a good monologue and what did others struggle with?
I was able to create my character from my first monologue from a personal experience. I based that one on a true story that happened to me over the summer. I showed emotion in this one by saying that we were scared and that we felt relief at the end. Then in the second monologue from Fences I chose Cory. I showed that he was angry during his monologue by talking in a different tone and by talking louder. This was because he was mad at his dad and he was talking about how Troy never did anything for him.
I was able to improve on showing that he was angry in my second time performing it. My first time I was nervous and didn't really know how to make my voice sound angry or how to make myself seem angry because I'm not very good at acting. Then on the second time I was able to make myself sound angrier and louder which help with sounding angry. The second thing I improved is my confidence to perform which still isn't very good but it is better than my first Two monologues. I learned to try and be less nervous and to just not worry what other people think during these monologues. I learned more about how to show more emotion because in my first one I had no emotion and in the second one you could see that I was angry.
The most difficult part of these monologues was the presentation aspect of it. This was because I'm not very comfortable with the class yet which made me nervous. The second was showing emotion when I was presenting. This was difficult for me because I never really show emotion. So it was hard for me to show that I was angry. The second time I presented I showed more emotion. Next time I can show emotion a little more and I can move a little more.
I noticed in some people's monologues that they seemed more confident and they did a better job of expressing emotion. Then some people did the opposite they seemed nervous and did not do as good of a job of showing emotion. Another thing that I noticed is that almost everyone did a good job with their line all of us messed up or forgot something sometimes because it's much harder to remember something when you're on stage, like we think we memorized it but then we get on stage and we forget something or just mess up because we are nervous, but for the most part people did a good job of memorizing them
